About Us

The Birmingham Samaritans started on 1st October 1962 in the Church of the Redeemer in Hagley Rd, Edgbaston, Birmingham. In 1964 we moved to St Jude’s School in Hill Street and then in 1967 to Brasshouse Passage, just off Broad Street.

The Branch’s last move was on 27th January 1988 when we transferred to our current premises in Bow Street, Birmingham.

The Birmingham branch started off with 50 volunteers and one phone line - now we have around 100 volunteers and four phone lines. We receive approximately 46,000 contacts a year, that’s an average of 126 per day.
